The Minister-In-Charge of Special Initiatives, Hawa Koomson, says her ministry has rolled out several projects under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication programme in water, sanitation, warehousing and the One Village One Dam programme.
Her Ministry supervises the newly inaugurated development authorities namely coastal, Middle Belt and Northern Belt.
According to her, the allocation of GH1 million each to the 275 constituencies under the programme has provided potable drinking water, sanitation facilities among others to improve the livelihoods of Ghanaians.
She was speaking at Bongo during a two-day working visit by President Nana Addo to the Upper East Region.
“The Ministry has rolled out projects at the constituency level including 1000 community mechanized water systems with solar powered panels under water for all projects.Under sanitation, there are supposed to be 1000 institutional water closet toilet systems with solar power mechanized boreholes.
Under the One Village One Dam initiative, 570 dams in the three regions of the North are undergoing construction, and when completed will provide multi-purpose water facilities and promote all year round farming, and under the One District One Warehouse project, we have commenced the construction of 1000 metric- tons re-fabricated warehouses”.
She said the Ministry has initiated processes to ensure that each of the 57 constituencies within the three regions of the north benefit from the One Village One Dam by end of 2018.
Mrs. Koomson indicated that, the ministry has put in measures to ensure that, beneficiary constituencies and their respective assemblies construct and manage the dams for optimal use.
She reiterated that, the projects when successfully executed will greatly impact the lives of people particularly in the north.
