Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 37-year old for kidnapping two pupils of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Basic Primary School.
The suspect, James Cornelius Kudah was picked up at a hotel in Asante Akyem Agogo where he was lodging with the victims.
According to police the suspect called parents of the victims demanding a GHc 2,000.00 ransom after he picked the victims from the school on Friday evening.
The victims, both 7 and nine years have been handed over to their parents to reunite with them.
Ashanti Regional Police Commander, COP Ken Yeboah who confirmed the incident to Citi News said it took the intervention of the police and telecom operator MTN to track and arrest the suspect.
“The kids had closed from school so they were about walking to where their other sister was and the two of them at the KNUST primiary unit, their little sister was at the Creche, which is a walking distance…. He told them that he’ll take them to where their mum was and that was the end.”
“He took them from Kumasi to Kumawu area in Odumase. He called the children’s father that he needed mather. He was demanding a ransom and the father all called the police and together we were able to lead with tservice provider to know exactly where he was calling from .With that information we moved to Odumase and we got the information that they only slept there. We go the information that they had moved to Agogo and we were able to trace them,” COP Ken Yeboah explained.
The victims have since been reunited with their parents but are undergoing medical examinations.
The suspect is said to have graduated Building Technology graduated from the Kumasi Polytechnic now Kumasi Technical University and wanted to use the funds from the crime to further his education to KNUST.
