The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is reviewing the distribution process of its reactivated prepaid vending cards for customers after a server malfunction left hundreds of customer unable to purchase prepaid credit.
According to the company, the review will help reduce congestion at its Projects Office which is located at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange.
The technical problems have seen hundreds of angry customers besiege the Kwame Nkrumah Circle office of the company, following their inability to top up their prepaid cards over the past few days.
Speaking to the media, the Managing Director of the ECG, Ing. Samuel Boakye Appiah urged customers who are yet to submit their affected cards to do so at the nearest ECG district office in their locality without delay.
“I must admit that we would have to review the card distribution process, we have to spend a lot of time with the project team or the team of expert to review the distribution of the card,” he said.
He noted that the cards need to be organized better, so that going forward, everything will run smoothly.
Although some customers are still unsure when they will receive their reactivated cards, the distribution exercise seems to have improved, Ing. Boakye Appiah added.
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has indicated that it may sanction the ECG, over the challenges with its power prepayment system which has denied about 2000 customers access to electricity, as they are unable to purchase credit for their meters.
The ECG has added 20 more service desks to assist customers trying to reactivate their prepaid cards following the notice by the PURC.
