Kwabena Nsekyire, the Ashanti Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), has said his outfit will embark on a massive spraying exercise to control bed bug infestation in second cycle schools in the region.
This exercise is to make sure all dormitories are free from bedbugs. The exercise comes after suit numerous reports of bedbug infection in several second cycle schools in the past week.
Speaking to Citi News’ Loretta Timah, the Regional NADMO Coordinator said the organisation has already purchased insecticides for the spraying exercise.
“We have to embark on a mass spraying in various senior high school and make sure all the dormitories are free from bedbugs” he said.
He also noted that, quite a number of school heads are aware of this exercise, and have given their backing, although they cannot support it financially.
“As at now, you know they [head teachers] are not allowed to take anything from any student, because previously you can see that some of the Headmasters, in collaboration with the PTA [Parent Teacher Associations] normally charge some token from the students, now it is not happening anymore,” he said.
Kwabena Nsekyire said his outfit is in talks with the Ghana Education Service to enable undertake the spraying exercise.
