The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto vented his anger in a purported radio interview when a journalist asked him about an allegation of him being incompetent.
Dr. Akoto in the audio that has gone viral on social media is heard saying that using such a word on him was “offensive” and “disrespectful.”
It is not clear when the purported interview was recorded but in the clip, the journalist who is unnamed, is heard asking the interviewee, alleged to be Dr. Owusu Akoto to react to an allegation by a former Kwadaso MP, Hilda Addo that he [Dr. Akoto] was incompetent. But a clearly unhappy Dr. Akoto, who is the current Member of Parliament for Kwadaso took offence to the journalist’s repetition of the word ‘incompetent’.
“…That’s very disrespectful… the word incompetent and I don’t want you to use that word on me. If she’s crazy to use those words I don’t want you to repeat it on me, you know that is very offensive.”
““I don’t want you to talk to me in these times… Do you know who I am, do you know what I have created in this life of mine for a journalist like you to tell me that I am incompetent. If you’re repeating somebody’s words it’s your words as well. You shouldn’t be that insubordinate. I don’t know how old you are but my son will be older than you, you understand, even the owner of your station does not come anywhere near my standard in terms of life achievement so you have to learn to be respectful, don’t use those words on me,” he said.
During the 2016 electioneering campaign, the Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, Samira Bawumia, described former President John Mahama as “incompetent”.
The word became very popular with most members of the then opposition party, the New Patriotic Party using it to describe the deeds of Mr. Mahama.
