Standard Chartered has marked Ghana’s Independence with a vibrant cultural celebration that brought tradition, pride and unity into the workplace turning its offices into a living canvas of culture featuring bold Ghanaian tradition.
The Bank celebrated Ghanaian heritage through fashion, food, music reinforcing the company’s commitment to cultural appreciation and national identity.
This week, across its Head Office and Branches, staff of the Bank have stepped out of the conventional corporate palette and have come to their offices draped in authentic Ghanaian attire.
Throughout the week, each day has been themed with a unique Ghanaian dress code. It is more than fashion. From representing their roots to kente-inspired ensembles to contemporary afrocentric wear that blends modern tailoring with ancestral motifs, staff proudly represented the diverse cultures that shape Ghana’s identity and truly the corridors have felt different, livelier and warmer.
The highlight of the week was the vibrant expression of Fugu Wednesday which is a government-led initiative launched last month. Team members came to work adorned in a beautiful display of Fugu also known as Batakari. The colourful, handwoven smocks symbolised heritage, resilience and rich craftsmanship.
Beyond the fabric, the taste palettes were fully engaged in full. Local street snacks and drinks made their way through meeting rooms and shared spaces. From nkate cake to poloo to atswemor to sobolo to lamugin and asana, they were served with the ease and familiarity of childhood memories. Traditional dishes were featured across the week, sparking conversations about hometowns, grandmothers’ recipes and national pride.
For a bank that has operated in Ghana for 130 years, celebrating culture is not a seasonal gesture. It is an acknowledgement that institutions endure because communities endure.
As Ghana continues to grow and evolve, Standard Chartered remains committed to honouring cultural roots while driving innovation and impact. The celebration served as a reminder that progress and tradition can thrive together.
