Ga Rural Bank PLC has donated farming equipment worth GH¢79,350 to five local assemblies in the Greater Accra Region, underscoring the bank’s long-standing commitment to supporting local farmers.
The five local municipal assemblies, including Ga South, Ga West, Ga North, Ga Central and Weija-Gbawe, were given 25 knapsack sprayers, 25 wheelbarrows and 60 pairs of Wellington boots to support smallholder crop farming.
Speaking to the B&FT, Peter Quaye, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ga Rural Bank PLC, said the bank has maintained this annual initiative since its inception over 35 years ago.
He added that originally supporting only the Ga District, the bank now divides donations among six assemblies. Year after year, it continues to provide farming equipment to recognise and support farmers for their dedicated work for Mother Ghana.
“This is something we have been doing every year since the inception of the bank. We have done this for so many years, well over 35 years in the life of Ga Rural Bank,” he stated.
“Before, the assembly was only Ga District so all these items would have gone to one assembly but because the assemblies were split into about 6 assemblies, we try to support them every year by dividing the items; and this is something we have never failed. Year in and year out, we do this to support the farmers for their galant work that they have been doing for Mother Ghana,” he added.
Mr. Quaye revealed that this year’s donation follows an earlier contribution to Kokrobite irrigation farmers, where the bank provided 30 spraying machines and 30 pairs of Wellington boots. He emphasised that such contributions go beyond tools, they reinforce the bank’s commitment to farmers who are also valued customers.
He also highlighted the critical role farmers play in the nation’s food supply. According to him “in terms of impact, the donations directly benefit the farmers, whose contributions are vital to Ghana. Without their hard work, we would not have the food we need after a long day. We owe them gratitude for their efforts, which ensure that communities have access to the produce that sustains us all.”
Ga Rural Bank’s initiative reflects a broader commitment to community development and agricultural sustainability. By providing essential farming tools and equipment, the bank ensures that smallholder farmers are better equipped to increase productivity, sustain their livelihoods and continue contributing significantly to Ghana’s agricultural economy.
