In an inspiring step to support local content production and promote Ghanaian storytelling, the management team of MultiChoice Ghana visited the set of the epic television series, Amoanimaa’s Era over the weekend.
This epic series is currently being filmed at the Konko village in the scenic Eastern Region of Ghana. This visit reaffirms MultiChoice Ghana’s commitment to fostering authentic Ghanaian storytelling and providing a platform for talented Ghanaian creators to reach audiences across Africa and beyond.
During the visit, the team interacted with the cast and crew of Amoanimaa’s Era, gaining insights into the production processes and the positive impact siting the production in Konko – a farmer village on the road to Koforidua – was having on its residents.
The team got to interact with a retired headmaster, Master Okyere, who has been employed to do the subtitling (Twi to English) on this series. He was one of many residents playing various supporting roles in this production.
Alex Okyere, Managing Director, MultiChoice Ghana, expressed excitement for this project, stating: “Our visit solidifies our dedication to developing local talent and bringing unique Ghanaian stories to the forefront. It is inspiring to see the passion and professionalism invested in this project, and we are proud to support its journey to the screen”.
He added: “Even more exciting is how the Konko community has embraced the production and provides various services to the cast and crew. We are grateful to the Chief and people of Konko for allowing the filming of Amoanimaa’s Era and Nana Akoto in their area. We are happy to see some of the residents take up roles in the series as extras, cooks and artisans – carpenters, builders, electricians, runners – among others”.
The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss the vision of the series and explore collaborative avenues with the Executive Director, Kwabena Gyansah, to elevate Ghanaian content, reinforcing MultiChoice’s commitment to quality storytelling and position as the biggest investor in the film and television space in Ghana.
Set in the picturesque landscape of the Eastern Region of Ghana, Amoanimaa’s Era weaves a narrative that highlights an earth goddess, pure of heart and intentions, chosen among five siblings to inherit the ultimate powers of their father.
She faces stiff opposition from her siblings, thrusting her into the complexities of modern-day life. The series is anticipated to captivate audiences with its compelling plot and immersive visual storytelling, explains Kwabena Gyansah – the executive producer.
Amoanimaa’s Era is the third epic production commissioned by Akwaaba Magic this year, all in line with the hyperlocal strategy of MultiChoice. Projects like Amoanimaa’s Era underscores MultiChoice’s dedication to nurturing the creative industry and delivering top-tier African content to its audiences in Ghana and around the world. Amoanimaa’s Era airs every weekday at 8pm on the Akwaaba Magic channel on DStv (150) and GOtv (102).
