GHACEM monitoring team tours beneficiary projects

A monitoring and evaluation team from cement manufacturer GHACEM Limited has completed a tour of some project sites in the Central and Western Regions.

The tour was to afford the team first-hand opportunity to assess progress of work on projects which GHACEM has supported with various bags of cement through its cement foundation programme.

Officials on the team included Mr. John Savage-Mensah, a P.R. Assistant, and Solomon Ayiah, Acting Director of Strategy and Corporate Affairs of Ghacem.

In the Central Region the team visited beneficiary projects such as Methodist ‘B’ Primary and Kindergarten (KG) at Saltpond; Ntranoa Anglican M/A Basic School at Elmina; Mensah Sarbah Basic ‘B’ KG; and the University Practice School, both in Cape Coast.

Four projects in the Western Region were also visited by the team, namely the Sacred Heart Preparatory School at Beposo; Prophet Nkansah M/A Primary School at Sekondi; Salem Presbyterian Academy at Takoradi; and St. Andrews Anglican Complex School at Sekondi.

At each stop the team interacted with caretakers and supervisors of the projects, who apprised them of progress information and challenges.

Mr. Solomon Ayiah explained that GHACEM, by its corporate social responsibility (CSR) through its Cement Foundation, donated bags of cement to support the various projects.

He indicated that by the tours GHACEM was able to ensure every cement donation was accounted for, as well as ascertain cases where additional support will be needed. “Many a time, these checks are necessary to ensure the cement is put to its intended use.”

Mr. Ayiah reiterated GHACEM’s commitment and ever-readiness to partner government and other public and private institutions to propel the country’s infrastructural development, indicating this is the rationale behind establishment of the GHACEM Cement Foundation.

He noted: “We want to remind the public, especially institutions in the health and educational sectors in deprived communities, that the Foundation is open to them; so they should apply and get the necessary support from GHACEM”.

Mr. Ayiah expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on projects the team visited, and observed that the owners and caretakers had honoured their pledges by using the cement as intended.

In an interview, Rev. Bernard John Nene Padi-Djaban, in charge of the Salem Presbyterian Academy -- one of the beneficiaries, expressed appreciation to GHACEM for its support and especially “for going round to see what we’re doing.

“This shows that indeed GHACEM is not only generous and patriotic, but also makes sure donated cement is used to advance the projects they were given for,” he quipped.
