Sixteen companies, corporate bodies and individuals were awarded at this year’s ‘The New Ghanaian (TNG) Pillars of Modern Ghana’ awards ceremony held at the Volta Hotel, Akosombo, on the 19th of June 2014.
Among the participants was Gateway Services Limited (GSL), the premier Destination Inspection Company in Ghana.
GSL’s award was in the category of Trade Facilitation.
The annual event was the 7th and had the theme “Integrity, the Springboard to Successâ€.
The District Chief Executive of Asuogyaman, Mr. Ampem Nyarko who spoke during the function, commended awardees and noted that the recognition is a manifestation of the good work they have done over the years.
Mr. Nyarko in commending the recipients remarked: “Sometimes it is as if no one is watching what we do, but this is to let you know that indeed people appreciate what you doâ€.
He urged them on and said, “To the unsung heroes like you, keep the torch burning for others to emulate your effortsâ€.
In a comment the Chief Executive Officer of the TNG, Dr. Doe Otibu-Asare, said the Pillars of Modern Ghana Awards was instituted seven years ago to recognise Ghanaians, foreign residents and companies in Ghana -- which has contributed immensely to the country’s economic development.
Dr. Doe Otibu-Asare emphasised the awards ceremony’s importance and said: “In furtherance of our strategic objectives, we regularly provide the platform for recognition, promotion and celebration of corporate entities and individuals of sublime achievements whose undertakings are of strategic importance to the development of Ghanaâ€.
GSL’s award was received by the Corporate Services Manager, Mrs. Amma Addo. Accompanying her were Mr. David Opare, Assistant Operations Manager; Ms. Francisca Dormah, Corporate Services Coordinator; and Mr. Ernest Quaye, Assistant Maintenance Officer.
Also awarded was the former Chief of Defence Staff Lt. Gen. Augustine Peter Blay for his meritorious service to Ghana in the areas of Defence and Security.
