Nana Prah Agyensaim VI, Chairman of the Ghacem Cement Foundation, has noted that since foundation its establishment 12 years ago assisted rural or needy communities country-wide with free cement bags at a market value of more than GH₵8.2million to rehabilitate or complete infrastructure in the education and health sector.
Ghacem, he emphasised, is committed to improving on its support to Ghanaians -- especially those in deprived communities -- since “everyone deserves to live in a country with improved infrastructure, which is inextricably linked to enhancing the quality of lifeâ€, he said.
Nana Prah Agyensaim VI was speaking in Accra at a function where beneficiaries of this year’s Ghacem Cement Foundation free cement allocation scheme from the southern sector of the country were presented with donation letters for their free cement allocations.
The Western, Central, Greater Accra, Eastern and Volta Region were the areas which formed part of the Southern Sector of the country that benefitted from free cement under the Ghacem Cement Foundation, which is an annual benevolence from the leading cement manufacturer.
The Northern Sector, which consists of the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions, will also receive its estimated allocation of free cement by the last quarter of the year.
Present at the ceremony were top Council Members of the GCF including the Chairman, Nana Prah Agyensaim VI; Mr. Morten Gade, Managing Director of Ghacem (member); Dr. George Dawson-Ahmoah, Secretary to the foundation, who is also the Strategy and Corporate Affairs Director of Ghacem; and Professor Audrey Gadzekpo (member).
On his part Mr. Morten Gade expressed delight with the strides Ghacem has made in infrastructural development across the country through the annual cement donation.
“The United Nations Millennium Development Goals clearly states ‘halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education by 2015’, and considering how close it is and looking at the whopping gap in infrastructural development in these two areas in the country, it behoves all of us to work hard to achieve these objectives.â€
Later in an interview with media-men present, Dr. George Dawson-Ahmoah, Secretary to the Foundation, reiterated that Ghacem is committed to sustaining the Cement foundation as a key Corporate Social responsibility project since the Board and Management of the company is aware of the socio-economic importance of such donations to the country
