Twenty Indian-based schools have taken the initiative to sponsor an Information Technology (IT) project at the Ghana Technology University College (GTUC).
The Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, K. Jeeva Sagar, revealed this when he delivered the university’s sixth Prestigious Lecture at its campus in Accra. He said the project will begin in the course of the year.
“India has a strong Information Technology (IT) base, which is made up of 26,000 schools. Twenty of these schools have taken it upon themselves to assist Ghana to develop because of its developing status and democratic atmosphere,†he said.
“The project strives to deepen capacity building and human resource development through the introduction of some Indian specialists and new Information Technology (IT) techniques to help realise the goal.â€
The lecture was under the title “The Indian Tale of Development and Positive Partnership with Africaâ€. It was attended by the president of GTUC, Dr. Osei K. Darkwa, graduate students of the university and some Indian staff from the Institute of Project Management Certification (IPMC).
The High Commissioner said India's development started slowly -- not by prioritising Information Technology (IT) but by governmental policies which guided the private sector, which consisted of small industries as well as the public sector.
Eventually, however, Information Technology (IT) became the main development tool -- a hallmark that has kept India's economy healthy and made a remarkable history for the nation.
