Sunyani — The Busia Institute for Rural and Democratic Development (BIRDD) has commended the Governing Council of the University of Energy and Natural Resources for the decision to rename the University after Professor Kofi Abrefa Busia, Ghana's former Prime Minister in the Second Republic.
The decision which was subject to parliamentary ratification is being supported by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo.
President Akufo-Addo, delivering a speech at the fourth graduation ceremony of University of Energy and Natural Resources at Sunyani, Saturday, described the move by the Governing Council of the school as an excellent one and assured the University of his full blessings to the move.
At a press conference here in Sunyani last Saturday Mr Anane Agyei, Director of the Institute assured to build a strong relationship with the university to promote and impact the ideals and values of the late Professor Busia to the younger generation.
In that regard, he said educational materials about the late Prof Busia would be made available to students on campus to enable them to explore about the life of the former prime minister who hailed from Wenchi.
Mr Anane Agyei however urged the youth to read and explore on the lives of the late Prof Busia and imbibe such values to build their future.
