Accompanied by former Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, the former president expressed worry about the insecurity in the country and appealed to the government to improve its security apparatus to safeguard the lives of the citizenry.
"The government should be up and doing to ensure that kidnapping becomes a thing of the past and it is the responsibility of the government to protect the lives of the citizenry and ensure peace, unity, stability and security for all," he stressed.
The former President thanked the National Imam of Ahlussuna Wal-Jama'Ah, Sheikh Umar Ibrahim and the Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu for their immense contributions in promoting peace, unity, security and stability.
The Deputy National Chief Imam of Ahlussunah WalJama'Ah-Ghana, Sheikh Mohammed Kamil Mohammed, called for strong security measures at the nation's borders, harbours and ports saying, "Failure to have strong security measures at those places could harm the nation and its citizenry, by the entry of criminals and ill-intended foreign nationals, for example, the recent kidnapping case of our Takoradi girls and other similar cases, such as the Canadian girls who were rescued however, in view of these unfortunate events, we call on the security agencies to work harder to continue putting efforts in ensuring safety and security for our citizens".
Sheikh Mohammed appealed to the government to fulfil its promise of posting Arabic teachers to Moslem schools to enhance effective and efficient teaching and learning adding that, "We have been duly informed that the government has posted Arabic teachers to our Islamic schools across the nation but we are yet to see any Arabic teacher reporting for duty in Islamic schools," he said.
