Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Commissioner of Police (COP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, has cautioned the public against fraudulent sale of vehicles in the country.
She said "The crime, which is at an alarming rate, usually takes place at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, 37 Military Hospital, Tema General Hospital and shopping malls".
COP Addo-Danquah issued the warning at the closing ceremony of a seven-week intensive detective course for 85 participants from the various security services in Accra,
She narrated that some criminals pretended to sell vehicles to potential buyers, after having agreed on a price, and lead the victims to someone, who pretended to be the owner.
COP Addo-Danquah said "The victim after paying for the vehicles, members of the gang hands a fake vehicle key to them. However, at his blind side of the victims, the perpetrators drive off. The victim will arrive at the parking lot only to realse that the vehicles and members of the gang are gone."
She charged security personnel to work hard and arrest the fake vehicle dealers.
COP Addo-Danquah urged law enforcement agencies "to deepen their coordinative, collaborative, cooperative and intelligence sharing, so as to be step ahead of criminals."
Commandant of the Detective Training Academy, Superintendent Benjamin Affisah, observed that due to the increase in piracy, participants were taken through Intellectual Property Rights, Money Fraud and Financial Crime Investigations
He explained that in order for the participants to grasp and have a clear understanding of the lectures, facilitators included practical scenarios, illustrations and case studies during the training.
Sup Affisah challenged participants to apply the skills and knowledge acquired in order to raise the image of their respective outfits.
