Trades and Industry Minister designate, Alan Kyeremanten has told the Appointment Committee of Parliament the One District One Factory promise made by the New Patriotic Party.
Mr Kyerenmanten told Member of Parliament for the Wa West constituency, Hon. Joseph Yieley Chireh the viability of that promise is dependent on the enthusiasm of the private sector as they plan to partner with them on the projects.
“We are committing to work with the private sector under our PPP program to see these come to existence…” he told the committee.
According to him, in some of the districts, they would refurbish “existing companies that are viable and would qualify under the district enterprise program.”
“The normal gestation period for a new factory could be one and half in some cases two years” he said when asked when exactly he thinks the projects will see the light of day.
“Potentially you can have as a matter of six months … but I can assure you that there is a lot of goodwill within the private sector to support this programme.”
Minister for Foreign Affairs designate, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, Minister designate for Local Government & Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama, and Minister of Energy designate, Boakye Agyarko are on the list for Monday’s vetting.
Their nominations are subject to approval by Parliament.
