Antoine Semenyo and his Bournemouth teammates failed to make the most of their chances of reaching the FA Cup last four for the first-time ever following their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.
But for their profligacy, Manchester City should have been out of sight after 15 minutes.
Erling Haaland missed a sitter early in the game before he was denied from the penalty spot by Kepa Arrizabalaga after 14 minutes.
Bournemouth went up the other end to get their tails up through Justin Kluivert, who was at the end of a free-flowing team move.
The momentum was in favour of the hosts, with everything pointing towards an odd day for the visitors.
That would, however, change four minutes into the second half when Erling Haaland made amends for his earlier misses with a deft finish
The Norwegian would have no more notable contributions in the game as he was hurled off by Guardiola for Marmoush after 61 minutes.
Two minutes later and the substitute was on hand to overturn the deficit for the 2023 FA Cup winners.
City held on for dear life as they crawled their way to victory – looking to finish their lowly season with a trophy.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth were 90 minutes away from rewriting history with a first-ever semi-final finish until they were outwitted.
City, who have now become the first-ever team in English men’s football history to advance to seven consecutive semi finals, will take on Nottingham Forest in Wembley’s semi final for the right to battle Aston Villa or Crystal Palace in the final.
