Adukrom Accident: Regional Minister arranges for transportation of surviving victims to Odumase Konongo

The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Adjei Awatey, has arranged for a bus to transport the surviving victims of the bus accident back to Odumase Konongo in the Ashanti Region.

Several pupils and teachers from the Ben Konadu Seventh-Day Adventist Basic School, who were involved in the accident, were stabilized at the Yilo Krobo Government Hospital and Tetteh Quarshie Hospital before being discharged.

The Eastern Regional Minister Rita Adjei Awatey, expressed her deep concern about the tragic accident, “We have made arrangements to transport the surviving victims, both teachers and pupils, back to the Ashanti Region. It’s a terrifying sight. We came across the accident on our way to Mount Mary Training College. Two died on the spot, one could not be easily identified.”

She also visited the Yilo Krobo Government Hospital to check on the victims who were still receiving treatment. “I have been informed that 16 others are currently being treated at the Tetteh Quarshie Government Hospital,” she added.

The [pupils were involved in an accident on Friday, March 28 ,2025 on the Adukrom-Aseseaso road in the Eastern Region.

Forty-one others, including teachers and pupils, are currently receiving treatment at various health facilities in the area.

The 65 pupils and their teachers were traveling from Odumasi Konongo in the Ashanti Region to Akosombo in the Eastern Region on an educational tour when the accident occurred.

According to a teacher at the school, the driver lost control of the bus while navigating a sharp curve, causing the vehicle to flip over on the roadside.

Rescue efforts were swiftly carried out by Police and ambulance personnel, with help from local residents.

The clinical coordinator of the Yilo Krobo Government Hospital Dr. Grace Gadzekpo, confirmed that two pupils were pronounced dead upon arrival.

Two critically injured pupils were transferred to Koforidua Central Hospital, while 40 others were stabilized at both the Yilo Krobo and Tetteh Quarshie Government Hospital, Mampong.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Adjei Awatey, along with education officials, visited the scene and the hospitals to check on the victims’ well-being.
