Ghanaian forward and Athletic Bilbao sensation Inaki Williams has made a bold promise to the Black Stars’ faithful, assuring them that he will find the back of the net against Chad on Friday.
Despite his impressive performances for Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish League, Inaki Williams has struggled to replicate his club form for Ghana, since making his international debut in a friendly match against Brazil in September 2022.
Despite the huge expectations, the Ghanaian international, has a surprisingly modest goal tally for the four-time African Cup of Nations winners, with just a single strike in 17 appearances.
The 30-year-old sole strike for the Black Stars came in November 2023, when his lone goal secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Madagascar at the Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
However, Inaki has since struggled to find his footing in front of goal for Ghana.
In a video shared by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on social media, Inaki exuded confidence, saying:
“Hello, Ghanaians. How are you doing? I’m home. On Friday, I’ll score a goal. See you.”
This statement underscores Inaki’s determination to end his goal-scoring drought and make a meaningful impact on the pitch.
Inaki’s words reflect the confidence and commitment among the players in camp.
Earlier, the Athletic Club forward urged Ghanaians to rally behind the Black Stars, saying:
“Hi, this is Inaki Williams. We need you to support us in these crucial games because together we are stronger.”
The Black Stars are set to host Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday in a pivotal match that could significantly boost Ghana’s chances of securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
The team will then embark on a challenging trip to Morocco, where they will face current group leaders Madagascar in a tough encounter on Monday, March 24.
Ghana currently sits in third place, leveled on points with second place Comoros but could ascend to the summit of Group I with wins against Chad and Madagascar.
