President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, March 4, hosted members of the Constitution Review Committee in their maiden stakeholder engagement to discuss proposed amendments to Ghana’s constitution.
The committee, chaired by Prof. H. Kwasi Prempeh, met with the President to seek his insights on constitutional reforms and identify key areas he believed required amendments.
During the engagement, the committee also briefed the President on their progress and highlighted areas where they required additional government support.
President Mahama commended the committee for its work so far and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting the review process.
He further identified key constitutional issues that needed urgent reform, including:
- The election of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs)
- The emoluments of Article 71 officeholders
- The appointment of Ministers from Parliament
The President emphasized that addressing these issues would strengthen Ghana’s governance framework and promote greater accountability and democracy.
