West Ham have parted ways with Julen Lopetegui after just six months in charge, following a disappointing start to the 2024/25 season.
The club is in discussions with former Chelsea and Brighton manager Graham Potter to take over, possibly on a short-term deal.
Lopetegui, 58, replaced David Moyes in May but officially began his tenure in July. Under his leadership, the Hammers managed only six Premier League wins in 20 games.
A 4-1 loss to Manchester City on Saturday, their ninth defeat of the season, left West Ham 14th in the table, seven points clear of relegation.
In a statement, West Ham said, “The first half of the 2024-25 season has not aligned with the club’s ambitions, and the club has therefore taken action in line with its objectives.”
The club also dismissed Lopetegui’s backroom staff, including assistant Pablo Sanz and several key members.
West Ham’s board expressed gratitude for Lopetegui and his team’s efforts, adding, “The process of appointing a replacement is under way.”
Potter, who last managed Chelsea, is seen as a potential candidate to steer the Hammers back on track.
