The much-anticipated inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama is set to take place on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the iconic Black Star Square in Accra.
The planning committee has outlined comprehensive guidelines to ensure the event proceeds seamlessly, accommodating dignitaries, media personnel, and the general public.
Event Layout and Security Measures
The Black Star Square will feature a structured seating and security arrangement, divided into three key zones:
- Zone 1: Parliamentary Sitting Area
This section is strictly reserved for invited guests and dignitaries. Access will be granted only upon presentation of an official invitation card. - Zone 2: Public Stands
Open to all members of the public, this area is designed to accommodate large crowds. To ensure everyone can follow the proceedings, the committee has installed large LED screens across the section. Stringent security protocols will be enforced to maintain order and safety. - Zone 3: Media Area
Accredited journalists will have access to this designated section, which is equipped with facilities to support comprehensive media coverage of the event.
Traffic and Parking Arrangements
To minimize disruptions and ensure smooth traffic flow during the event, temporary road closures and diversions have been announced:
- Road Closures:
- 28th February Road
- Osu Cemetery Traffic Light
- Castle Road
- Starlet 91 Road
- Traffic Diversions:
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes, including Salem Avenue, Oxford Street, and Liberia Road, to bypass restricted areas. - Designated Parking Spaces:
Attendees can park at the following locations:- Behind the Independence Arch
- Forecourt of the State House
- Access Bank Car Park
International Participation
The inauguration will witness a significant international presence, including 10 Heads of State, two Vice Presidents, one Speaker of Parliament, two former presidents, and leaders from various international organizations.
Media Accreditation
The planning committee has approved over 700 applications for media accreditation. Accredited journalists will be provided access to designated media zones to facilitate their work. A clean feed will also be shared with TV stations and media houses to ensure consistent and high-quality broadcasts.
