The Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, has asserted that the New Patrriotic Party (NPP) risks losing all its parliamentary seats in the Western Region except that of Sekondi.
According to him, the voting pattern has changed, and voters are expected to vote based on the economy and job availability.
Speaking on the Omanbapa Morning Show with Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson on Monday, November 19, 2024, he explained the Sekondi parliamentary seat is considered safe due to the performance of the current MP.
“Sometimes, as an individual MP, your personal work can overshadow the performance of the government. So, you can see some candidates doing better than their party, and I think Egyapa Mercer is one of them,” the pollster said.
When asked about the Essikadu-Ketan Constituency, he said the NDC is leading, but there is still work to be done.
“For the Essikadu-Ketan Constituency, per our recent polls, I think Grace Ayensu Danquah is in the lead, but it is not over yet. This means they should not be complacent. Everyone must work.” He asserted.
Available election data from the 2020 elections indicate that, out of the 17 parliamentary seats in the Western Region, the NPP has 9 seats, whereas the NDC has 8.
If the declaration by Mussa Dankwah is to materialise, then NPP parliamentary seats including the Takoradi Constituency, Kwesimintsim Constituency, Essikadu-Ketan Constituency and others which have been occupied by the NPP since 1996 may likely go to the NDC.
Historically, the Western Region has been considered a swing region in parliamentary elections, with voting patterns shifting between the two major political parties, therefore, any change in the upcoming elections may not be a surprise.
Meanwhile, the MP for Sekondi Constituency, Andrew Egyapa Mercer in response made it known that he has really worked in the constituency, so it is no news being told that his seat is the safest in the region.
“I believe truth is what leads us, and I think the people of Sekondi Constituency also believe in the commitment I have made. We have explained to the constituents all the factors that go into fulfilling the commitment we made, and we still hold on to them. I am still engaging the communities, and I say the Sekondi Constituency is having good grounds for the NPP.” The MP noted.
However, he disagreed with the findings of the Global Info Analytics.
“If they are saying all the NPP seats in the region are in danger, what about the NDC seats? Election is not all about the economy and the economy is not all about inflation rate. Infrastructure, education and digitalisation are also part of the economy.” He told Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson on the Omanbapa Morning show.
