13 passengers have been reported dead in a road accident that occurred on the dawn of Monday, October 14, 2024 at Kwapia, near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
The VIP bus which was travelling from Kumasi to Enchi in the Western North region, according to reports, veered off its lane and entered into a ditch around the Kwapia community.
Police sources say thirteen passengers died from the accident. They comprise seven males, five females and a child.
Reports by Ibrahim Abubakar indicated all the 12 people died on the spot while the driver, identified as Osei Adu, died after being transported to the hospital for treatment.
According to eyewitness, the bus with registration number ER 2445-11 picked up other passengers from another bus which had broken down on the road, making it overloaded.
He said some passengers on the bus who protested the driver’s decision might have distracted him, leading to the accident.
Meanwhile, the injured persons in the accident are currently receiving treatment at the hospital while the police are investigating the accident.
The remains of the deceased, however, have been deposited at the morgue as authorities work to gather more information and provide support to the affected families.
The accident has sent shock waves through the local community, as families mourn the loss of their loved ones.
