Ghanaian actor, Sargent Dee of ‘Cantata’ fame has expressed concerns about the lack of support for the creative industry in Ghana.
The popular actor in an interview on Showbiz 360 said creatives are now turning to politics due to the lack of support for the industry.
According to him, their objective is to also benefit from politicians and government as they don’t receive much support from the industry.
“The infrastructure for the creative industry is so bad. It’s making creatives become politicians. Everybody has aligned with a political party so that they can also benefit from government,” he said on October 12.
“There are people who have been in the industry for long and have sacrificed but they die leaving nothing behind. Their medical bills are always on radio and tv with people soliciting for support for them,” he added.
Sargent Dee believes that more investment into the industry would have changed the situation as creatives would not be forced into politics.
“If we invest in our creative arts industry and its active and everyone is free, who would want to be a politician by force? It is not an error for a journalist, actor and artiste to say they want to be a politician. Everyone has his or her career and what they want to achieve in future.
“But the creative arts industry is not strong that is what is making us suffer,” he stressed.
