Asante Kotoko confirmed on Sunday that two of their players, Esmat AbdalHamid Mohamed and Obdoelkarem Yoouef Yagoub, both Sudanese nationals, have gone missing from the team’s camp in Washington, D.C.
According to the club, the players left their hotel without permission on Friday, October 11, 2024, and all attempts to reach them have been unsuccessful.
The club has formally reported their disappearance to local law enforcement and is cooperating fully with the authorities in the United States to ensure the players’ safe return.
The two players were among seven Asante Kotoko members who travelled to Washington to participate in the Capital City Africa Cup match against D.C. United, which is part of the DC Ghana Week celebrations.
Due to visa issues, Kotoko could not travel with their full squad and had to rely on a mix of players from Ghana Premier League teams to form a “Ghana Week DC Select Side.” This select team, which included five Kotoko players, emerged victorious in a 2-1 win over D.C. United at Audi Field.
The Capital City Africa Cup promotes Ghanaian tourism, culture, and sports in the DMV area.
