Ghana international Mohammed Salisu has expressed his excitement after scoring his debut UEFA Champions League goal, helping AS Monaco secure a crucial away draw against Dinamo Zagreb.
The Black Stars defender made his mark on the scoreboard as the French giants rallied from behind to clinch a vital point in Croatia.
Salisu’s impressive performance earned him a place in the UEFA Champions League Team of the Week.
Following the match, he took to Instagram to share his joy, stating, “Great effort from the lads yesterday. Let’s keep pushing. First Champions League goal.”
The match saw Dinamo Zagreb take the lead just before halftime with a goal from Peter Sucic, who capitalized on a pass from Martin Baturina. The home side doubled their advantage in the 66th minute, putting Monaco under significant pressure. However, Salisu responded by scoring with a well-placed header from a cross by Maghnes Akliouche, reducing the deficit and marking his first-ever goal in the competition.
With just a minute remaining in the match, Denis Zakaria equalized for Monaco from the penalty spot, sealing a 2-2 draw and keeping their hopes alive in the tournament. This match marked Salisu’s second appearance in the Champions League, having debuted in Monaco’s earlier victory over Barcelona.
