Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has successfully avoided a three-match suspension after the club appealed his red card from the match against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The 30-year-old midfielder was sent off for a foul on Spurs’ James Maddison, a decision that could have sidelined him for upcoming Premier League fixtures.
United’s appeal argued that the straight red card was a mistake, and the Football Association (FA) has agreed, rescinding the ban.
This means Fernandes will now be available for Manchester United’s matches against Aston Villa, Brentford, and West Ham.
The red card came when Erik ten Hag’s side was trailing 1-0 at Old Trafford, and they ultimately lost 3-0 to Tottenham. The defeat marked United’s third league loss of the season, leaving them in 13th place after six games.
United’s poor start to the campaign continues, and avoiding a ban for Fernandes will come as a boost as they try to recover from their disappointing form.
