Medeama SC coach Nebojsa Kapor is impressed to have goalscorers across diverse positions following their recent narrow win over Legon Cities on Saturday.
? The 2024/25 Ghana Premier League’s second matchday kicked off with Legon Cities hosting Medeama SC, the 2023 GPL champions, at the University of Ghana today, September 14, 2024.
After a sluggish beginning to the season, marked by a defeat to Bibiani Gold Stars, Legon Cities hoped to turn things around by harnessing the energy of their home crowd and securing a positive result against Medeama. Conversely, Medeama aimed to build momentum from their victory over Accra Lions and strengthen their pursuit of a second Premier League championship.
The highly anticipated clash between Legon Cities and Medeama ended in disappointment for the hosts, as Kamaradini’s first-half goal handed Medeama their second win of the season and preserved their perfect start, adding to Legon Cities’ woes.
Although Legon Cities controlled the game, enjoying more possession and creating several promising opportunities, their efforts to equalise were ultimately futile, as Medeama’s robust defence held firm, securing their second clean sheet of the season and protecting their lead until the final whistle.
Medeama SC dominance over Legon Cities
Medeama’s victory further solidified their supremacy over Legon Cities, with an impressive record of 8 wins in 10 matches across all competitions since 2020, including a third straight win over the Royals.
Coach Kapor expressed no concern about the team’s attacking display but was heartened by the fact that goals are coming from various positions, a testament to the team’s versatility and a significant morale booster.
“I’m very okay if other players are given support, they are scoring from different positions and I don’t see a problem with it.”
“We have set our goal for the season before the season started. We are not thinking what will happen in May or June, this is too far . The next match is the most important one”. He added
Following the loss, Legon Cities find themselves at the foot of the table, increasing the pressure on head coach Paa Kwesi Fabin to reverse their fortunes in their upcoming match against promoted side Vision FC away from home.
With six points, the Yellow and Mauves temporarily occupy the top spot in the Ghana Premier League, awaiting the results of the remaining matches to be played on Sunday and Monday.
