The Lioness of Cameroon progressed to the last 16 of the 2024 U-20 World Cup in their debut appearance after beating Australia 2-0 in Bogotá on Friday night.
Goals from Achta Toko and skipper Naomi Eto were enough for Cameroon to advance to the knockout phase at the first time of asking.
After securing a point in their first game and losing narrowly to hosts Colombia in their second group outing, Cameroon needed a resounding victory to book their spot.
The win leaves Cameroon in third place in group A but in second place amongst the third best qualifying sides.
Cameroon’s progression comes as a result of being ranked as the second best third-placed team, garnering four points out of the available nine.
Nigeria and Ghana will vie to join Cameroon in the knockouts after the last round of games, with Morocco’s tournament all but over.
