Gameweek three’s action concluded at Old Trafford with Manchester United suffering a 3-0 loss at the hands of Liverpool.
However, throughout the gameweek, some Ghanaian players were involved in action for their various sides.
3Sports assesses the performances of Ghanaian players in Gameweek 3.
Arsenal — Thomas Partey
Arsenal got the weekend up and running with a lunch time kick off against Brighton and Hove Albion at the Emirates on Saturday. Both teams shared the spoils as the game ended 2-2. Arsenal had a ton of work to do as they were made to play a large chunk of the second half with 10 men due to Declan Rice being sent off.
Thomas Partey was instrumental in ensuring Arsenal picked up a point in the face of adversity. His efficient reading of the game saw him make the most interceptions (5) of any player on the pitch.
Bournemouth, Antoine Semenyo
Semenyo continued his fine start to the 2024-25 campaign with a goal from close range to spark a comeback, as Bournemouth came from behind to beat Everton 3-2 at Goodison Park.
The Ghanaian lasted the entire game and scored his second goal of the season, whilst producing 3 key passes and creating 2 big chances.
Crystal Palace, Jeffery Schlupp
The left-back came off the bench at Stamford bridge on Sunday after 87 minutes. He managed to help Palace nick a point on the road after making a losing start to the season.
It was also Palace’s first point against Chelsea since 2017.
Leicester City, Fatawu Issahaku & Jordan Ayew
The search for a first top flight win since the 2022-23 season persists. Leicester City lost their first home game since their return to the top flight as Aston Villa beat their Midland rivals 2-0 on Saturday.
Jordan Ayew and Issahaku had little impacts on the game, with the pair being hauled off after 67 minutes. Both wide men made the most tackles for Leicester City (3), contributing defensively to the team.
West Ham, Mohammed Kudus
The Hammers’ poor run against City ( losing their last 4 ties) remained unchanged after Saturday’s late kick off. Erling Haaland bagged his 11th Manchester City hat-trick as West Ham looked completely helpless against the defending champions.
Kudus was far from his best, although he rattled Ederson’s post with a ferocious drive from inside the box. The dominance of City in possession meant West Ham were pinned back and Kudus had lots of defensive, rather than offensive, work to do. He made two tackles, put in a block and won four of his 9 ground duels.
Meanwhile, Tariq Lamptey was an unused substitute for Brighton in their 1-1 stalemate at the Emirates, whilst Kamaldeen Sulemana continues to work his way to full fitness with Southampton.
