As the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary, Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah has laid out the facility’s plans to improve healthcare delivery.
He has admired the confidence of the staff, believing they will help to navigate Korle Bu through its numerous challenges to successfully move the health facility forward.
The Hospital launched its 100-year anniversary celebration in October 2023, during which the Management called on Ghanaians and the world at large to join in celebrating and appreciating 100 years of training, research, advocacy, partnerships and excellent healthcare delivery.
Since that time, the Hospital has seen substantial capital investments, including new infrastructure projects, rehabilitation of various centers and purchase of new machines and trappings to enhance their service delivery.
The CEO who was speaking in an interview with Onua News touted the achievements of the hospital since he took over the medical center in 2020.
The seasoned Consultant Plastic Surgeon admitted that there is much work to be done, but was equally positive that the undertaken projects will be completed to enable Korle Bu continue to play a leading role in healthcare delivery.
“There is a lot going on at Korle Bu, because if you look at infrastructure for instance, the urology- nephrology center has been completed, the new block for the psychiatric unit has been completed, the diabetes center has been rehabilitated and other various wards are receiving a facelift,” he revealed.
“We are improving upon the state of our equipment, we have a newly installed 128 slice state of the art CCT scan in the new urology-nephrology center of excellence, the magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI is functioning and we continue to add more equipment,” he added.
Dr. Opoku Ware indicated that Korle Bu receives patients across the countries and even within the West African sub-region because of the expertise of the trained personnel and specialized facilities.
He appealed to Corporate Ghana, philanthropic organizations, and individuals to adopt a ward in the hospital to support care delivery.
He outlined a series of planned activities for the centenary celebrations, dubbed “100 ways of celebrating 100 years” under the theme: “Hundred years of leadership in quality healthcare delivery, through training, research, innovation, and partnerships.”
