Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku has shed light on the healthy competition among players at Fenerbahce as they prepare for the new season under the guidance of renowned manager Jose Mourinho.
The arrival of Mourinho, known for his successful stints with Real Madrid and Inter Milan, has intensified the competitive atmosphere within the squad.
Players are striving to impress the former Chelsea boss and secure their places in the starting lineup.
“As you know, Fenerbahçe is a very big team, and with big players comes increased competition, which ultimately benefits the team,” Djiku said during the pre-match press conference. “Not only in the defense zone but across all positions, every player is working hard to show their best and help Fenerbahçe achieve great success.”
Djiku is expected to feature prominently in Mourinho’s first competitive match in charge, as Fenerbahce face Lugano in the UEFA Champions League qualifier on Tuesday night.
The Ghanaian international has been a consistent presence during pre-season, playing a key role in several friendlies, including a convincing victory over Hull City. Djiku has also been utilised as a midfielder in some matches, showcasing his versatility.
Since joining Fenerbahce from Strasbourg last summer, Djiku has been a pivotal figure, contributing significantly to the club’s strong finish in the league, where they narrowly missed out on the title to rivals Galatasaray.
Djiku’s performances have also been notable for the Ghana national team, where he is expected to play a crucial role in their upcoming qualification series.
The intense competition within the squad is expected to push players to new heights as Fenerbahce embark on their European adventure this season under Mourinho’s stewardship.
