Meanwhile, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu and convenor of the “Hands Off Our Hotels” demonstration, has formally petitioned the government to immediately stop the sale of four hotels owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to Rock City Hotel, which is owned by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong.
The North Tongu legislator stressed that the sale of state properties has historically not benefited the country and insists that such transactions should not proceed without the collective consent of Ghanaians.
The demonstrators marched from the Labadi Beach Hotel and terminated near the Christ the King Church after the police blocked them from reaching the church, which was the agreed termination point.
Hundreds of Ghanaians walked to register their disgust and pressure the government to stop SSNIT from making any attempts to sell its 60 percent stake in four hotels.
