Brighton & Hove Albion defender Tariq Lamptey has expressed his deep connection to Ghana, emphasising the joy he feels every time he returns.
Born in Hillingdon, United Kingdom to Ghanaian parents, Lamptey officially committed to playing for the Black Stars in 2022 after representing England at youth levels.
Lamptey has become a regular fixture in the Ghana national team when fit. He was named in the squad for this month’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Central African Republic, participating in both matches as Ghana secured crucial victories to bolster their World Cup aspirations.
The match against the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi marked Lamptey’s first appearance on Ghanaian soil, making the occasion particularly special for him.
Speaking with the 3Sports team on Wednesday, Lamptey shared, “I feel great, always want to come back. I’m really happy, good to see the people, good to see some family and friends, and obviously, the two games were really good, so I’m really happy.”
Shifting the focus to his philanthropic efforts, Lamptey discussed his foundation, which supports the education of needy but brilliant children.
Lamptey highlighted the importance of giving back, stating, “I’m really grateful for the position that I’m in, always thank God, and have very good people that are around me in terms of my family and the guys that help with the foundation. Without them, it’s not possible to do so.”
The foundation, which focuses on supporting children’s education, is a source of pride for Lamptey. “Helping especially the kids and going to schools and stuff is really something that I’m proud of. Doing training sessions with them, seeing them smile, and the joy on their faces makes everything worth it and motivates me to continue to do more.”

Reflecting on the progress of his foundation, Lamptey said, “I’d say it’s positive, very proud of everything we’ve done so far, where we started from till now. There are more places we’ve gone to, it’s been amazing. There’s been some great people behind it. My aunty was a big one, a very special person, so I’m really grateful to everyone and the whole team, and hopefully, we can keep building the support.”
Lamptey struggled with injuries in the recently concluded season, making 19 appearances and producing three assists. His contract with Brighton is due to expire in June 2025.
