In a heartfelt reflection, Ace Broadcast Journalist Oheneyere Gifty Anti has shared her pride and joy in having played a pivotal role in the early television careers of several notable Ghanaian personalities and politicians.
Among those who made their TV debuts on her media platform are Julius Debrah, former Chief of Staff to former President John Dramani Mahama; John Abdulai Jinapor, the Ranking Member for the Committee on Mines and Energy; Samuel Abu Jinapor, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources; and Dr. Omane Boamah, Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Gifty Anti, who spoke at a Thought Leadership programme hosted by Onua FM, expressed her satisfaction in having helped these individuals launch their public careers despite the initial challenges she faced in getting them to participate.
“There are a lot of men and women when I see them, it makes me so proud. Especially, because I put them on TV for the first time. Former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, the Jinapor brothers, Dr. Omane Boamah, Sammy Awuku, ‘but they take me do nothing’,” she humorously added,
Recalling the difficulties in convincing these now-prominent figures to appear on her show, she noted how trying it was. “I remember trying to get them on TV wasn’t easy at all, but now I sit back and I’m excited about it.”
Dr Anti expressed gratitude for the recognition she has received from some of these individuals over the years stating that “some of them acknowledge me for that. Quite recently, Honorable Julius Debrah acknowledged me, and it was beautiful. Sammy Awuku did the same at a program and it was nice. It’s not about the hype but seeing that I played a role in their life is rewarding.”
Reflecting on her own journey, Gifty Anti highlighted the success and longevity of her show, The Standpoint, which focuses on women’s issues and has become a significant platform for women’s voices in Ghana.
“When I started my show, The Standpoint, which is all about women, it is currently the longest-running and consistent agenda-setting show for women on TV, July 2024, marks our 16th anniversary.”
Gifty Anti’s contributions to Ghanaian media and her role in nurturing future leaders underscore her impact on the country’s media landscape and her enduring legacy in broadcast journalism.
