The National Coordinator of the Coalition for Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), Albert Arhin has said that CODEO cannot just criticize the Electoral Commission (EC) when it does not have the full facts of the issues raised against the commission.
He states that it will be embarrassing to just get in there and through flak against the commission without having a grasp of the full details of the issues.
Mr Arhin said this when asked why CODEO has been silent on issues raised against the commission including the missing biometric voter registration (BVR) kits while speaking on the Hot Issue on TV3 on Sunday, June 2.
He told host Kemmeni Amanor “If we are not coming out to criticize or maybe lambast them, then maybe it is because we don’t have the facts.
“You may not have the fact to actually go into criticism and it will be very embarrassing when you don’t have an insight into something and then you just go in there to criticize.”
“When it is necessary to criticize the EC we do,” he stressed.
Mr Albert Arhin further observed that the mistrust of the Electoral Commission persists although there has been improvement in the electoral process over the years.
He notes that the commission is always a devil and a demon for the opposition party but the governing party is always in support of the EC.
Mr Arhin urged the commission to improve on its communications with the parties.
