Vincent Kompany has emerged as a surprise contender to replace Thomas Tuchel as the manager of Bayern Munich.
The German giants, who were considering Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso and Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner, have actively included Kompany in their shortlist.
The Manchester City legend guided Burnley back to the Premier League, but the Clarets were relegated after finishing 19th with just 24 points.
Despite this setback, Kompany’s potential move to Bayern Munich would mark a significant step up in his managerial career, having previously managed Belgian club Anderlecht before taking charge at Turf Moor.
Bayern Munich, who failed to win the Bundesliga for the first time in 12 years, are looking for a fresh start after a trophyless season.
Despite signing England captain Harry Kane in a high-profile move last summer, the club finished third in the Bundesliga, 17 points behind champions Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern also faced an early exit from the DFB-Pokal, losing to third-tier Saarbrucken, and were knocked out of the Champions League semi-finals by Real Madrid.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Kompany has already received a direct call from the Bayern board regarding his situation. The interest is confirmed, and while it is still in the early stages, Kompany is on the list of potential candidates.

Xabi Alonso, who led Bayer Leverkusen to an incredible unbeaten Bundesliga title-winning campaign, decided to stay with his club despite Bayern’s interest. Similarly, Oliver Glasner, who has had a significant impact since joining Crystal Palace in February, is expected to remain with the Premier League side, leaving Bayern to explore other options.
Tuchel, who left Bayern after 14 months in charge, is reportedly keen on a return to the Premier League. He has been linked with the Manchester United job amid uncertainty over Erik ten Hag’s future at the club.
As Bayern Munich seek a new direction, Vincent Kompany’s potential appointment could bring a fresh perspective to the six-time European champions, aiming to reclaim their domestic and continental dominance.
