Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has unexpectedly surfaced as a potential candidate for the head coach position at Bayern Munich.
The Bundesliga giants have been actively searching for a replacement for Thomas Tuchel, whose departure was confirmed last week, following an initial announcement in February.
Bayern Munich has faced difficulties in securing a new coach, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso, Germany’s Julian Nagelsmann, and Austria’s Ralf Rangnick all declining the role.
Efforts to persuade Tuchel to remain in charge ultimately failed, leaving Bayern in a challenging position.
Kompany, who has garnered a respectable reputation from his managerial stints at Anderlecht and Burnley, is now on Bayern’s radar.
Despite Burnley’s relegation, which fell short of the high expectations set at the start of the season, Kompany’s managerial capabilities have been recognised.
His experience in the Bundesliga as a former Hamburg player and his fluency in German adds to his appeal.
A formal approach from Bayern Munich would undoubtedly be enticing for Kompany.
Although he signed a five-year contract extension with Burnley in 2023, he has remained tight-lipped about his future following Burnley’s season-ending defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Bayern Munich endured a disappointing, trophyless campaign under Tuchel, finishing third in the Bundesliga.
