Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to report the alleged bribery of EC officials during the Ejisu by-election to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for an investigation to commence.
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso, Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, was caught on camera giving out what many see as a white envelope to two Electoral Commission officials (male and female).
The incident occurred at the Fumesua Pentecost Church Polling Station with Polling Station Code F311503 on April 30, 2024, during the Ejisu Constituency by-election.
Speaking on 3FM’s news analysis programme Hot Edition, the human rights lawyer said, “The EC, having withdrawn its officers, should go ahead and present the matter to the OSP” for the OSP to go into the matter to determine the facts.
Moreover, Mr. Kpebu said that it is time we demand the truth and also called on the NPP MP to admit his wrongdoing.
“He should admit it so that the law will take its course and serve as a warning to the rest of us in society,” he stated.
Citing the Trump trial in the US, Martin Kpebu said, “Why is the Trump trial going on? It’s because the lawyer [Michael] Cohen saw that he should speak the truth so that Donald Trump will be brought to justice.”

“Mr. Nyarko should be brave. He should admit it so the law will take its course against him and it will serve as a warning for the rest of us.”
He added that “Mr. Nyarko has no excuse at all being a lawmaker and I’m sure he was in Parliament when the new law Act 1034 that deals with corruption and Section 256 of the Criminal Offences Act as amended.”
“The law, to paraphrase, says that a person shall not act in a manner that amounts to corruption…in respect of a public election, so Mr. Nyarko has no excuse,” Mr. Kpebu reiterated.
EC to comment after full investigations
Meanwhile, the EC’s Director of Elections, Dr. Serebuor Quiacoe, has stressed that the Commission can only comment further on the matter after thorough investigations.
“From the video we see a white thing, whether it is envelope, handkerchief or white paper, we have to find out what it was meant for etc.” he said in an interview with JoyNews.
Later, in an interview with journalists, Mr. Kingsley Nyarko explained the reason for the tense by-election in Ejisu, which is the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He stated that the NPP is not leaving any stone unturned because one of the other aspirants, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, was once upon a time a Member of Parliament for the area for twelve years.
