A Ghanaian trader has opened up about her daily income earned from selling popular Ghanaian dish, fried yam with chicken and fish.
“Bayer3 a y”akyi”, as it is called in many part of Ghana, is a common street food found at almost every street in Ghana.
Naomi who sells fried yam with chicken in Accra disclosed to 3Xtra on the first episode of Ghanaian Grind that she’s able to make an average of GH?500 per day.
She emphasized that although business is down at times, she does not always run at a loss.
She said she ventured into the selling of fried yam because she could not find any job after traveling from Akim Oda in the Eastern Region to Accra to search for greener pastures.
“I am from Akim Oda in the Eastern Region and I was jobless and came to Accra. I found someone and started working with the person…we buy the yams from Northern Region and we get the chicken from harbour.
“It is not always that I make profit and I also don’t make losses always but on average I make GH?500 a day,” she said.
Naomi has established her business near the bustling street in Accra, hence taskforce team from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly incessantly destructs her business operations.
According to her, the authorities sometimes impound her equipment used for her business.
“The AMA taskforce sometimes comes around to impound our items. They take away our tables used for selling and leave the food on the floor. Some customers are also impatient,” she added.
