The Ghana Armwrestling Federation today paid a courtesy call to the Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Lawyer Kwame Asuah Takyi.
The Arm Wrestling team won Ghana’s highest medals at the just-ended 2023 African games with players from the Ghana Immigration Service winning 12 medals.
Interestingly both captain Edward Yamoah Asamoah and the coach Nii Okai hail from the Immigration Service.
As such the medalists together with the Ghana Arm Wrestling Federation deemed it an honour to present their medals to the CGI.
Lawyer Kwame Asuah Takyi, thanked the sports ministry and the government for their efforts to set up standards to host the games and receiving plaudits from fans around the world.
“During these games, even after the games you’ve heard people praising Ghana for the organisation and it’s not easy, the sports stadia that have been constructed by the government, Borteyman, UG all say a lot and build international relations,” he said.

President of the Arm Wrestling Association, Charles Osei Assibey also thanked the Ghana immigration service for their support throughout the games and called upon the Comptroller General to at least consider awarding some of the players in the team with jobs.
“About four or five of the medalists who represented Ghana in the name of Ghana Immigration service are civilians and unemployed and I pray there will be a consideration to get them employed when there is an opening,” he pleaded.
The Arm Wrestling team will now turn their attention to the upcoming World Championships in Moldova which comes up in August.
