A five-year USAID-Ghana Performance Accountability Activity-funded programme aimed at ensuring Citizens Demand Responsive Service Delivery has been launched in Tamale.
The $17.3 million initiative, dubbed the ‘Ghana Performance Accountability Activity’, seeks to build on existing Ghanaian strategies, programmes, and capacities, and leverage on related support being provided by USAID and other donors to reinforce ongoing Ghanaian efforts to promote transparent, accountable, and inclusive governance.
It covers 70 districts across ten regions which include 46 MMDAs in Northern, Savannah, North East, Upper East and Upper West.
Speaking at the launch Executive Director of Norsaac, Alhassan Mohammed Awal, said Ghana continue to grapple with persistent service delivery challenges in education, water, sanitization and healthcare, agriculture, and fisheries.
He noted previous efforts by donor partners to enhance service quality and accountability
have yielded unsustainable results.
“The Ghana Performance Accountability Activity, characterized by inclusivity, sustainability, collaboration, and behaviour-driven approaches, promises to deliver immediate and lasting impacts.”
In a statement, Deputy Chief of Party Linda Ofori-Kwafo emphasized the project’s core objectives, which include increasing citizens’ demand for responsive service delivery, enhancing government service efficiency through robust regulatory standards, and empowering local-level public service providers to uphold quality standards by strengthening the connection between Ghanaian values and performance standards.
“The project will enhance the capacity of Government partners including ministries, agencies, and the targeted 70 focal district assemblies, as well civil society and community-based organizations to implement behavior-led capacity-building and institutional strengthening interventions.”
