The Ghana Chinese Community joined two non-governmental organisations, the Community Connect Network (CCNet) and the Dr. Kofi Affrifah Foundation and MIKARDO, for a special Christmas charity at Konongo Odumase Asante Akyem in the Ashanti Region.
This was at the “3rd Annual Let The Kids Aged & Sick Smile Charity Programme” held on the 25th and 26th December 2022 with the support of Mr Laud Affrifah, Deputy Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration who doubles as the Husband of Nana Adwoa Agyemang Affrifah, CEO of (CCNet).


The project benefitted hundreds of aged and senior citizens, widows, the sick and the vulnerable.
They were mostly drawn from Konongo Odumase and its surrounding communities including Odumase Agyariago, Kwaa Mensah Kramokrom, and Adumkrom within the Asante Akyem Central area.
This Charity Programme began about three years ago with a target of 300 persons in the year 2020 but has grown bigger and better each year from then.
The Organisers raised the target number to 500 this year but by grace and the support of donors they were able to cover over 800 aged, sick, needy and widows and also provided goodies for about 1,500 children from the identified communities.
The Ghana Chinese Community was fully represented by its delegation led by Mr. Stephen Shen who is the Group’s General Secretary.
Mr. Shen expressed how delightful and pleased the Ghana Chinese Community was in participating at this year and the 3rd Annual Let The Kids Aged & Sick Smile Charity Programme.
The Ghana China Community which comprises leaders and captains of top Chinese businesses and companies based in Ghana have supported this charity programme every year.
Some of these Chinese businesses include Sunda International, Tiast Company, Ghana Chinese News, Sanyou Trading Co. ltd, Hua Feng Co. Ltd, Tang Long Co Ltd, and CAITEC Group of Companies among several others.
Mr. Stephen Shen also used the opportunity at a brief handing-over ceremony at Konongo Odumase to present some donated items worth about GHC160,000 (One Hundred and Sixty Thousand Ghana Cedis) to the two NGOs.
The items included 100 bags of Rice Cartons of Nestle Milo Cartons of Tomato Paste several boxes of Indomie Noodles Gallons of Cooking Oil Sanitary Products.
Presenting the goodies to the beneficiary organisations this is what Mr. Stephen Shen had to say: “This is not the first time we are doing this and we have always put a smile on the faces of the Children, the aged, needy, the sick and widows of Konongo-Odumase.
This year, the project targeted Odumase Agyariago, AdumKrom, KramoKrom and Kwaa Mensah.
This is an annual event by Community Connect Network, Dr. Kofi Affrifah Foundation and with the support of Mr Laud Affrifah, Deputy Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration.
“I would like to also use this opportunity to thank and commend Nana Adwoa Agyemang Afrifah, CEO of Community Connect Network as well as the Founder of the Dr. Kofi Affrifah Foundation for all her good works in supporting the poor and needy people. Over the years, these organisations have helped school girls with Sanitary pads among other Sanitary needs. The organisations currently distributes sanitary pads every month to basic schools in the area.
“We believe this donation will go a long way to make the necessary positive impacts on the lives of KONONGO-ODUMASE residents. In conclusion, We further assure the foundation of our continuous support from the Ghana Chinese Community in the coming years as a way of changing and bringing hope to lives. Receiving the donations, Nana Adwoa Agyemang Affrifah, CEO of CCNet as well as the Founder of the Dr. Kofi Affrifah Foundation also gave some background to the whole celebrations among other initiatives.
“Ladies and gentlemen, Christmas is here again and we have gathered to show love and put a smile on the faces the kids, aged, needy, sick and widows of Konongo-Odumase and surrounding villages of Agyariago, AdumKrom, KramoKrom and Kwaa Mensah.
“This is an annual event we have instituted by Community Connect Network with the support of Mr Laud Affrifah, Deputy Comptroller-General of Immigration to put a smile on the faces of the children, aged, sick, needy and widows of this community.
The 2022 year ended on a festive occasion of Christmas but not everyone is fortunate is as fortunate to have things to celebrate with and enjoy in the goodness of the birth our Lord Jesus Christ. So this annual event has been instituted to put a smile on faces.
Some of the communities and children are really deprived and it is good to provide some relief during this festive occasion.
The donations are made on the 25th and 26th December when we visit the communities and crown it with a party for the children in Konongo-Odumase on the afternoon of 26th December.
DONORS
This year, we set a target to provide for a minimum of 500 aged, sick and needy and also a minimum of 1000 children from Konongo-Odumase and some surrounding villages.
For this year’s events, companies, organizations and individuals have donated overwhelmingly.
While we solicited and began receiving donations, we had a very special intervention.
An association of organizations, the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies made a donation to cover the first 500 aged, needy, sick and needy and also some goodies for the children.
This group of organizations includes Tiast Company, Ghana Chinese News, Sanyou Trading Co ltd, Hua Feng Co Ltd, Tang Long Co Ltd, CAITEC Group of Companies.
They 100 bags of rice, 42 boxes oil, 21 boxes of tinned tomatoes, 21 boxes of mackerel, 10 boxes of Sardines, 21 cartons of milk, 15 bags of sugar, 42 boxes of sachet milo, 25 boxes of spaghetti and 100 boxes of Indomie for the children.
Other companies that have donated significantly, include Twellium Ghana Company, Fakih Group of Companies, Oriental Restaurant, SAS Jewellery, Alcomania Company, Letap Pharmaceuticals, Multipac Company, Asomdwee 1 Rubber Company, DPS Pipes Ghana, NERO Water, Kane- Em Company, Meinergy Technologies, DCW, Never Stop Company, Delta Paints, and Sunda Ghana Ltd. They provided water, drinks, pastries, rubber products, commodities and also sponsored the playthings for the kids today.
Many individuals and organizations who wish to remain unseen have also donated and contributed to the happiness that has been spread this year.

The Distribution of Christmas Goodies
In the company of their Chinese counterparts, a big Christmas and Children’s party was held everywhere in the beneficiary communities where goodies were shared to all community residents and inhabitants.
Some of the items included already cooked hot meals, soft drinks, mineral water, plastic bowls and plates children playing toys and some uncooked bags of rice for the aged and widows.
The villagers couldn’t hide their joy as they mobbed the team when the team arrived at Kwaa Mensah.
Some of the residents shared Testimonies after receiving their gifts and narrated how they benefitted every year from the Ghana Chinese Community Group.
The story was not different either as the people of Adumkrom, Kramo Krom, also cheered on and celebrated with the Chinese.
The children and the villagers also attempted to speak some Chinese Language.
Others also shared their testimonies and thanked the entire Chinese team.
Sanitary Pad Beneficiary Schools Share Their Testimonies.
Some School heads and students in the Konongo Odumase area that have benefitted largely from the monthly Sanitary Pad distribution programme also shared their testimonies.
Headmistress of KOSS Model Basic School ‘B’ Madam Priscilla Dzandza spoke about the Sanitary Pad project.
Also her Assistant Headmaster Mr. Kwadwo Opoku touched on how this Chinese project has helped them immensely.
Mr. Seth Amaah the Headmaster of Odumase KOSS Model Basic ‘A’ also spoke.
The Girl Child Coordinator of the Konongo-Odumase Zongo-based Madrasatul Talbiya Islamic School also had a message to share.
On her part Madam Faustina Ama Aheto, the Girl Child Officer of Konongo Odumase Anglican JHS also added her voice to thank the donors.
Finally, some of the students also expressed their biggest appreciation and also raised some other concerns that were quite pressing to their hearts.
