A farmer and President of The Coalition for Cocoa Sector Reforms, Thomas Kwesi Ayisi Kumah has been tipped to win the National Democratic Congress’ National Executives Committee elections slated for December 17, 2022.
He is among some 19 contestants vying for positions to lead the party for the NEC membership slots in the Western North Region.
Five individuals out of the 19 vying for positions would be elected by delegates.
He is expected to bring his experience from the Cocoa sector into the party’s 2024 campaign manifesto preparation.
According to him, the next NDC government will revamp the cocoa sector with major reforms that will bring dignity to farmers and creat jobs for the teaming unemployed youth in the country, intimating that the cocoa industry faces an existential collapse under the current administration.
“They hardly listen to the plight of farmers, the cocoa industry is under threat. My motivation therefore is to help the NDC come out with sustainable policies in it’s manifesto, get them implemented to bring relief to farmers and workers in the Ghana’s cocoa sector if voted into power, ” He noted.
The MSc Economist from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology said
” the NDC will decentralise COCOBOD, pay monthly performance based wages to farmers to improve their capacity to access loans, contribute pensions etc. We will ensure the payment of the living Income price of $3,100•00 per tonne of cocoa “.
He therefore appealed to delegates to vote for him as NEC member.
Mr. Ayisi Kumah is the first Deputy Regional Treasurer of the NDC in the Western North Region and a Founding President of the Party’s Tertiary students wing of the National Democratic Congress TEIN, GBUC.
