President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Institute for Security, Disaster and Emergency Studies, Dr Ishmael Norman has said the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) appears to be a bit confused about how to handle the re-entry of Chinese galamsey Queen, Aisha Huang.
In his view, this matter makes it clear that the data of the Immigration Service is not interoperable with the data of the National Security and the Police Service.
He has asked the Minister of National Security, Albert Kan Dapaah to provide clarity on this matter.
Speaking on the Ghana Tonight show on TV3 Tuesday September 6, Dr Norman said “This shows that the computer or data is not interoperable with National Security and Police. They should have been able to arrest her at the point of entry.
“There is a little bit of confusion of the immigration service about they should handle Aisha.”
“I won’t blame Immigration Service too much, but National Security. How come the National Security didn’t give the information?
“If she were a terrorist, she may have caused damaged over the past two weeks that she has been in the country,” he told host Alfred Ocansey.
On Monday September 5, an Accra Circuit Court remanded into custody 4 Chinese nationals for their alleged involvement in illegal small-scale mining activities.
Hearing the case Monday September 5, three suspects, Jong Li Huang, Huang Jei and Huiad Hua pleaded not guilty in court to a charge of engaging in sales and purchases of minerals without license.
Aisha Huang who was deported following her involvement in galamsey activities is facing charges of engaging in sale and purchases of minerals without license, as well as mining without license.
She is reported to have returned to the country under a different name. She reportedly applied for a TogoVisa and went through the borders into Ghana to continue her galamsey business in a town in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking on this matter on the 3FM’s Sunrise show on Tuesday September 6, a Security Analyst, Dr Adam Bonaa said he was surprised that the digitalization at the various entry points into the country could not detect her re-entry.
Dr Bonaa said “All the digitization couldn’t trace Aisha Huang irrespective of the millions of cedis the government has invested in the digitization agenda.”
A former Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Inusah Fuseini also expressed surprise at the return of Aisah Huang.
Commenting on this on the Sunrise show on 3FM , Tuesday September 6, Mr Fuseini who is also a former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central asked, “How did she know that we were doing NIA registration for her to register?
“Who gave her permission and how did she acquire it before entering Ghana? How many months did she do in this country. I smell conspiracy, she was in Kumasi doing business all this while.”
Meanwhile the Immigration Service has disclosed that Aisha Huang could be jailed for two years for unlawful re-entry into Ghana.
Public Relations Officer of the Service Michael Amoako-Atta told Media General‘s Joseph Armstrong on Tuesday, September 6 that if she is found to have breached immigration regulations, she will be put behind bars for that long.
“If she is convicted on immigration rules, she may go in for about two years,” DSI Amoako-Atta stated.
“That is what the law says.”
