The newly constituted Council of the University of Ghana has appointed Professor Dorothy Yeboah-Manu as the new Director for the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR).
Prof Yeboah-Manu takes over from Prof Abraham Anang, whose retirement from active service begins after Saturday, July 31, 2021.
Prof Anang led the Institute in 2020 to sequence the SARS-Cov 2 virus, which led to the global outbreak of coronavirus.
With her appointment, Prof Yeboah-Manu becomes the first female director of the Institute, which was established in 1979 as a leading biomedical research institute.
Her appointment comes days after the Council appointed Prof Nana Aba Appiah Amfo to act as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, the first female to rise to that level at the country’s premier university.
