Member of Parliament for the Ashaiman constituency Ernest Henry Norgbey wants parliament to institute bi-partisan probe into the disturbances in Ejura in the Ashanti leading to the military shooting two protesters to death and injuring four others.
According to the MP the police and the military who are the culprits of killing cannot be trusted to carry out fair and impartial investigations.
He says a bi-partisan probe will be able to unravel the circumstances surrounding the whole incident.
Speaking on 3FM’s Hot Edition with Nana Akua Abrampah on Tuesday, the Ashaiman lawmaker who is also a member of the Defense and Interior Committee of Parliament said the committee will invite the Interior and defense ministers to come and explain to the people’s representative the reasons for the action taken by the security forces in Ejura.
A joint –military and police team fired several shots into a protesting crowd that had poured into the streets of Ejura on Monday June 29 ,2021 over the gruesome murder of a social activist ,Ibrahim Kaaka Mohammed.
Kaaka was attacked by a mob with offensive weapons on Friday June 25 leaving him with severe head injuries and unconscious.
He died at Okomfo Anokye teaching hospital on Monday June 28 .His death prompted calls for justice amid threats of reprisal attacks.
Family of the 45 year old deceased had alleged the activist received several death threats from some persons over his activism.
The police have arrested two persons in connection with the attack.
