The soothingly sensational Adaha Dance Band has climaxed TV3’s month-long celebration of Ghana in a grand musical style on the New Day show on Wednesday, March,31.
The band, according to its leader Kwaku Boateng, came out of a final year research project when they were students at the Music Department of the University of Ghana in the year 2018.
Adaha Dance Band is made up of eleven members who are all graduates of the University of Ghana Music and Performing Arts Departments. The band is fashioned after the pre-independent bands who had been trained by the colonial army to play foreign musical instruments, like the brass band, keyboard, trombone, saxophone, guitars blended with indigenous instruments like the premprensiwa, gong, kpanlogo drums, frikyiwa, and many more.
This amalgam of musical instruments, both foreign and local, produces the most harmonious Highlife rhythms laced with the most soothing vocals to deliver authentic Highlife music to the ears straight through the heart like the chord of thunder.
The eleven-man band delivered Highlife tunes after tunes, even on request, like the famous “Serwaa Akoto”, which is the favorite of Mr. Francis Doku, General Manager of TV at the Media General. The climax of it all was the performance from the New Day band itself, made up of the anchors of the show in the persons of Johnnie Hughes, Berla Mundi and Cookie Tee, delivering their own captivating rendition.
The Adaha Dance Band has their signature dress code of colonial military apparel to make up the ensemble. The group disclosed that they are working on their album to be released soon. They are on all social media and music streaming platforms for good music lovers to follow and patronize them.
