The third edition of the Northern Radio Awards was Saturday, February 27, launched at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Northern Regional capital, Tamale, with a commitment to celebrating the role of radio in projecting the area.
Organizers, Flawles Creations Consults, forced by the exigencies of Covid-19 limited physical presence at the event and encouraged online participation which was a success.
Speaking at the event, lead organiser Naa Kwarley Richardson talked about the relevance of developing local content that promotes the northern heritage. She said “it’s better to tell our story through our own eyes than to let the world tell our story for us.”
She reminded the media houses in the northern part of the country of the need to better place themselves to be competitive nationally and globally.
This year’s edition of the awards, according to the organisers, focuses on capacity building through the provision of training for all participating stations including their management.
A team member and representative for the Upper East Region, Mashwal Ndego encouraged all participants to focus more on the benefits of the event in terms of training rather than whether they win or lose.
He explained that the focus of the event is not just to award but also support the cycle of change needed to grow the radio industry.
This year’s edition is under the theme, “CELEBRATING THE ROLE OF RADIO JOURNALISM IN PROJECTING THE NORTHERN HERITAGE”.
